Youth Team Through To Quarter Finals
The Peterborough United youth team are through to the quarter-finals of the PUMA Youth Alliance Cup after knocking out Southend United 2-1 after an entertaining encounter at Huntingdon Town on Saturday.
The youngsters will face Queens Park Rangers in the Southern Section of the draw on Saturday 23rd February and the team will be full of confidence after knocking the Shrimpers out of the competition.
Hakeem Araba (pictured) and Scott Ginty were on target for Posh with both strikers showing good predatory instincts. Defender Darren Gourlay, who is on the road to recovery after a serious leg injury, watched the action and told theposh.com:
'There was a good togetherness within the team and the lads battled really hard. Sean White created the first goal with a good run and cross down the right which picked out Scott Ginty who finished well to open the goal-scoring. Evans Kouassi made the second goal with a forceful run and White delivered a fine cross for Hakeem who finished clinically.
'The goal we conceded was silly really. It was a ball over the top, Courtney Howard came to get it, hesitated and the striker just got there in front of him and sent a shot which trickled over the goal-line from 25-yards. Overall it was a great performance and we are delighted to get through.
'We have QPR in the next round and it should be a great game. We lost on the opening day to them so we will be looking for a bit of revenge. We only lost 1-0 that day and we created numerous chances in front of goal, so the lads will be confident,' Gourlay said.
