Youths Pegged Back For Draw
The Peterborough United youth team progressed into the next round of the PUMA Youth Alliance Cup after a 2-2 draw with Rushden and Diamonds with Simon Clark's men denied maximum points by a last-gasp equaliser from the hosts.
Rushden took the lead within the first 10 minutes but the setback didn't effect the Posh youngsters who put together some impressive moves and came close to equalising on numerous occasions before they finally made it 1-1 through Evans Kouassi (pictured).
It was a great pass through to the exciting winger who calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Posh continued to dominate, creating plenty of chances before the half-time interval with Hakeem Araba going close with a powerful header.
Posh were getting plenty of joy in wide areas with plenty of crosses into the box, taking advantage of the 3-5-2 system that the Diamonds were deploying. Posh were bright in the second half and penned the home side back in their own defensive third.
The youngsters made it 2-1 when defender Josh Jirabandy found the back of the net with a diving header and Posh continued to create chances, but were unable to find a killer third goal.
Deep into stoppage time, Rushden found themselves an unlikely equaliser to the dismay of the Posh team. The goal arrived in the fifth minute of injury time when a player sneaked around the back to take advantage of what appeared to be a dubious offside goal.
Despite the last-gasp equaliser, Posh are through to the next round of the competition and the players enjoyed the experience of playing at the impressive Nene Park.
