The Peterborough United youth team chalked up an impressive 3-2 victory over Hereford United on Saturday in the latest PUMA Youth Alliance Cup fixture at Huntingdon Town.

The London Road youngsters were in fine form and opened up a three-goal lead before the Bulls hit back to make it a nervy finale following two late goals from the opponents.

It was Evans Kouassi (pictured) who gave Posh the lead as he beat two defenders, cut inside and fired a low shot underneath the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

The second goal was scored from the penalty spot after Scott Ginty had been upended inside the area with Lewis Webb coolly slotting the ball into the bottom corner, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

A third goal should have made the game safe and Ginty scored himself, taking a pass from Kouassi before firing past the goalkeeper into the bottom right hand corner.

Hereford pulled a goal back following a 50-50 challenge in midfield that was won before a slide pass sent the striker clear on goal who slotted the ball past Courtney Howard in the Posh goal.

The Bulls reduced the arrears further as they converted from close range after a goal-mouth scramble. Danny Andrew said that it was a good victory for Posh and one they can build on.

'It was a good game for us and one that we really needed to win. Hopefully this will give us the inspiration to go on and put a run together. The performance was good, we all worked hard for each other and deserved the victory. We have Rushden & Diamonds this weekend and it will be a good test for us,' Andrew said.
