Youths Suffer Narrow Loss
The Peterborough United youth team suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Brentford in their latest PUMA Youth Alliance League fixture.
Against the Bees, the Posh youngsters were left to rue a number of wasted opportunities in front of goal and were undone by two set-pieces, one from a free-kick and the winner coming from a penalty kick conceded by defender Darren Gourlay.
Posh had taken the lead through Billy Crook's well-placed shot following a good run and cross from Scott Ginty and the goal-scorer came close to adding to his tally with a couple of long-range efforts.
Defender Callum Reed told theposh.com: 'We took the lead, but then conceded two set-piece goals, which was a bit disappointing. We dominated most of the game, we created a lot of opportunities, but we were a bit wasteful in front of goal.
'I suppose it was a similar sort of game to the first team in the sense that there were a number of chances missed. We need to be more ruthless in front of goal. In each game we have played we have only lost by one goal, so it is just about taking our chances.
'We didn't work the goalkeeper enough and that is something we will be trying to put right in training this week ahead of our next fixture,' Reed said.
Posh: Dorrill, Reed, Gaughran, Gourlay, Andrews, Abraham (sub Rogers), Kouassi, Webb, Crook (sub Pennals), Ginty (sub Lyons), Araba.
