Last Gasp Goal Denies Second String
Jamie Day scored a superb free-kick, but it was Stuart O'Keefe who stole the show as his last-gasp set-piece earned Southend United a share of the spoils in the latest Totesport Football Combination League fixture.
Southend fielded a young side at London Road, but they had the first effort of the game as Calver curled a shot over the crossbar from just inside the penalty area.
The Shrimpers opened the scoring on six minutes and it was a superb effort from James WALKER, who curled an excellent right-foot shot into the top corner past Sam Cole.
Dominic Green came close to an equaliser moments later, but his left-foot shot from 15-yards flicked the top of the crossbar.
Adetayo Osifuwa headed wide from a free-kick as Posh left the defender unmarked in the six-yard box.
Josh Simpson sent a spectacular volley wide of the upright from 25-yards after a snap-shot as Posh tried to get back into the game.

Posh levelled the scores through a superb free-kick from Jamie DAY who floated a left-foot free-kick over the wall and past the despairing dive of goalkeeper Ian Joyce. Green was then denied by a smothering save from Joyce on 31 minutes.

A Simpson shot was saved by Joyce on 65 minutes as Posh continued to dominate the fixture. Pearce had to make a last-ditch block to deny Walker at the other end after a good burst from Calver.
Batt fired wide from a tight angle on 74 minutes before Simpson saw a long range effort saved by Joyce, but there was still only one goal between the two sides.
Posh squandered a glorious opportunity to make it 3-1 moments later after McCrae picked out Wright, but he somehow blazed wide of the target.
Sam Cole was beaten at the other end from a superb Walker free-kick, but the crossbar came to his rescue and then the ball bounced over Calver's head as it rebounded into play. Wright was denied by Joyce late on after an excellent first touch following a cross-field Batt pass.
Southend found a leveller on the brink of full-time as O'KEEFE curled a superb free-kick over the wall and past youngster Cole.
