Lee Scores Twice In Reserve Victory

Posted on: Tue 17 Nov 2009

The Peterborough United second string bounced back from the 4-1 reverse at Watford on Monday night by beating a strong Ipswich Town side 3-2 at London Road.

The Tractor Boys are favourites for the Totesport Football Combination League title, but fell behind after just three minutes at a wet London Road when Sergio Torres fired home from a Danny Andrew centre.

Torres then headed over from a Dominic Green cross before Charlie Lee made it 2-0 with a close-range header after Green's centre.

Ipswich reduced the arrears when former Sunderland boss Jonathan Stead converted from close-range after a Colbeck free-kick rebounded kindly into his path.

James McKeown made three excellent saves to deny Stead before Lee made it 3-1 with a stunning solo effort, beating three defenders before rifling the ball into the back of the net.

McKeown made two smart saves after the interval while Stead blazed over from close-range before the visitors did scored again to set up a tense finale when Stead converted a Delaney cross.

Posh: McKeown, Andrew, Omuzusi, Dove (sub Austin), Piergianni, Lee (sub Smitheringale), Torres (sub Davies), McCrae, Adjei, Korenteng, Green. Subs unused: Bulembi, Cole.

Ipswich: Barratt, Ainsley, Delaney, Colback, Bruce, Balkestein, Upson, Garvan, Stead, Priskin, Healy. Subs: Lambe, McLoughlin, Hyam, Cawley, Eastman.
