Two Trialists Score In Reserves Draw
The Peterborough United second string were pegged back for a 3-3 draw by visitors Ipswich Town after an entertaining Totesport Football Combination League fixture at London Road.
Posh fielded two trialists in the starting line-up and both found the back of the net, but David Oldfield's men were left disappointed after squandering a 3-1 advantage. Lewis Smith and Billy Crook both found the back of the net in the first half while the Tractor Boys scored through Dean Bowditch.
Kwesi Appiah and Sergio Torres both went close before the interval, while the visitors also hit the woodwork in a frantic spell. In the second half, Posh pressed and extended their advantage through Yusuf Yilmaz who slotted the ball under advancing goalkeeper Ian McLoughlin.
Lee Frecklington was withdrawn just after the hour mark after an impressive performance while Craig Braham-Barrett looked dangerous down the right. However, Ipswich reduced the arrears through Danny Haynes, who was earlier denied by Mark Tyler and with 20 minutes remaining, full-back Jack Ainsley headed home from an in-swinging corner to complete the comeback.
Both sides pushed for a winner, but despite late pressure, neither side could find another goal and the game was drawn. Ipswich were captained by experienced defender Matt Richards.
Posh: Tyler, Braham-Barrett (sub Austin 73min), Blanchett, Frecklington (sub Korenteng 60min), Gaughran, Blackett, Crook, Yilmaz (sub Webb 70min), Appiah, Smith, Torres.
