Reserves Beaten By Last-Gasp Strike
Peterborough United reserves were beaten in the final minute by Wycombe Wanderers in the latest Totesport Combination League fixture with the hosts snatching all three points with the last kick of the game.
It was a dramatic end to the fixture with the Chairboys missing a penalty before Nathan Ashton curled home a superb free-kick past goalkeeper James McKeown to clinch a win. McKeown had done very well to save the penalty.
Charlie Lee had given Posh the lead with a 25-yard shot that deceived goalkeeper Jamie Young, but Wycombe were level through former Barnet front man Magno Viera who finished clinically.
Posh had opportunities to score throughout the pulsating encounter with Lee seeing a tremendous free-kick tipped over by Young while Scott Rendell was also denied by the shot-stopper after a sharp turn on the edge of the box.
The hosts had chances themselves with Viera twice going close while Ashton sliced wide when well-placed. Wycombe named a fairly experienced side for the clash while Posh boss David Oldfield included Kieran Charnock and Daniel Blanchett, as well as Lee and Rendell in his starting line-up. Sergio Torres was not selected in the squad that travelled.
Posh: McKeown, Gourlay, Andrew, Charnock, Blanchett, Lee, Crook, Gaughran, Webb, Rendell, Ginty.
