Lee On Target In Reserves Defeat

Posted on: Tue 16 Sep 2008

The Peterborough United second threw away a 2-1 lead to eventually lose 6-2 at Southend United in the latest Totesport Football Combination League fixture at Roots Hall.

Shaun Batt and Charlie Lee were on target for the Posh second string, but Southend came storming back in the final quarter of the match to record an emphatic victory against a mainly youthful Posh side.

Kieran Charnock, Mark Tyler, Tom Williams, Lee and Batt were the only senior performers on display, but boss David Oldfield will be disappointed with the result after matching their opponents for long periods.

Manager Darren Ferguson said: 'There were a number of decent performances - Shaun Batt took his goal well and led the line admirably and trialist Dale Nicholson did okay in midfield. But we conceded five goals in the final 17 minutes and that is not good enough.

'Charlie Lee completed 85 minutes and took his goal well, but they will have to wait until the weekend to see if they have done enough to be in the squad for the game against Tranmere.'
