Rendell Converts Two Penalties In Posh Win

Posted on: Tue 26 Aug 2008

Peterborough United made it seven goals conceded in two matches for Leyton Orient as the second string recorded a 4-0 victory in a Football Combination League fixture at London Road with Scott Rendell converting two penalty kicks.

The former Cambridge United front man scored twice from the spot in an emphatic win for the hosts with Liam Hatch and an own goal completing the scoring for David Oldfield's team.

Hatch scored the pick of the goals, beating two defenders before firing into the bottom corner, while a corner kick from Paul Coutts led to the opening goal. Posh dominated for long periods in the game and Rendell had a number of opportunities to add to his total, particularly in the second period.

Coutts hit the crossbar and Hatch saw a goal disallowed while Shaun Batt was a constant menace down the left hand side of the Posh midfield. Goalkeeper Mark Tyler was very rarely troubled as Orient struggled to break down a stubborn rearguard.

Posh: Tyler, Charnock, Gaughran, Andrews, Whelpdale, Coutts (sub Webb), Low, Smith (sub Crook), Batt, Rendell, Hatch (sub Ginty).
