Reserves Beaten By Shrimpers
The Peterborough United second string were beaten 2-1 by Southend United in the latest Pontins Holiday Combination League fixture at London Road with Adam Smith scoring the Posh consolation.
Smith struck from 20-yards to level the scores for Posh after Southend United had taken the lead from the penalty spot after a foul by Kieran Charnock. Charlie MacDonald sent James McKeown the wrong way from the spot, but if it wasn't for the Posh shot-stopper, the Shrimpers could have won more comfortably.
He denied MacDonald with a superb reflex save and was also on hand to deny Matt Harrold and Alex Revell with neat stops. At the other end, Billy Crook poked a shot wide of the target while Alfie Potter went close twice after good work from Josh Low.
The visitors always looked dangerous on the break and MacDonald hit the bar before Southend took the lead through Harrold who finished clinically. Daniel Blanchett was cautioned as the tackles began to fly in, but despite late pressure, Posh couldn't find a leveller.
Josh Low, Claude Gnakpa, Tom Williams and Kieran Charnock all completed 90 minutes.
Posh: McKeown, Williams, Charnock, Jirbandy, Gnakpa, Blanchett (sub Ginty 75min), Smith, Low, Crook, Lyons, Potter. Unused subs: Gourlay, Webb, Abraham, Kouassi.
