Hatch On Target In Draw For Second String
A looping Liam Hatch header earned Peterborough United a 1-1 draw at Stevenage Borough in the latest Pontin's Holiday Combination League fixture on Wednesday afternoon.
Hatch directed his effort past the goalkeeper following a good run and cross from Scott Mitchell to cancel out a first half goal from the home side following a lively encounter.
After a quiet opening to the game which featured several marauding runs down the left from Daniel Blanchett, Posh registered the first attempt on goal with Liam Hatch denied by the goalkeeper.
Hatch shot wide on 16 minutes while Adam Newton saw a cross-cum-shot saved by Stevenage goalkeeper Russell. McKeown saved well from Buchanan on 35 minutes and Wayne O'Sullivan saw a fierce drive saved by the young Posh shot-stopper.
Scott Rendell saw a shot blocked after a smart turn while Stevenage came close to extending their advantage on the stroke of half-time but a long-range shot from Watts drifted wide of the right hand post.
Posh made a lively start to the second period and had a number of chances in the opening exchanges with Adam Newton twice going close after good work from trialist Hill.
Hatch headed against the crossbar after good work from Mitchell on the hour mark while Newton's cross-cum-shot also found the top of the crossbar before the goalkeeper pushed the rebound over the bar.
Tom Williams saw a long-range effort well saved while Mitchell saw his effort controversially ruled out for offside after racing clear. On 78 minutes Scott Rendell was denied by a world-class save by the Stevenage goalkeeper who somehow pushed the ball over the bar just as the striker began to think he had broken his Posh duck.
