Whelpdale Finishes Third In Player Of The Month Award
Peterborough United winger Chris Whelpdale finished third in the March Powerade Player of the Month award for Coca-Cola League One with Swindon Town striker Simon Cox taking the plaudits.
Cox enjoyed a phenomenal month for Swindon Town, netting eight goals in as many league games. His scoring run began with a goal in his side's narrow defeat to Colchester United and was followed by back-to-back braces to secure comprehensive home wins over both Southend United and Hereford United.
Cox's outstanding goal-scoring form culminated in him hitting a hat-trick to seal all three points for the Robins at Northampton Town and help them move away from the relegation places in Coca-Cola League 1.
Chris Kamara, chairman of the Powerade Player of the Month Awards panel, said: 'Simon Cox is simply a goal machine. All the big clubs have had a look at him and you can see why. He's beginning to reach his full potential and his goals have helped Swindon stay clear of the League 1 relegation zone.'
Robbie Blake of Burnley won the award in the Championship and Reuben Reid of Rotherham United landed the League 2 accolade.
The Powerade Awards panel, chaired by Sky Sports pundit and Coca-Cola Ambassador Chris Kamara, made the decision. The panel also includes Steve Bates, Chairman of the Football Writers' Association, Malcolm Clarke, Chairman of the Football Supporters' Federation and Steve Watts, Marketing Assets Manager, Coca-Cola Great Britain.
