Peterborough United Football Club are delighted to announce Mark Cooper as the new manager. Cooper has signed a three and a half-year contract with the club and starts with immediate effect.
Cooper, who steered Kettering Town to third place in the Blue Square Premier League prior to his arrival at London Road has appointed former Barnsley and Wigan full-back Nicky Eaden as his assistant.
During his playing career, Cooper represented a number of clubs including Birmingham City, Fulham and Exeter City before starting his career in the dugout at Tamworth, steering the club to the third round of the FA Cup in successive campaigns.
He took over the reins at Rockingham Road in May 2007 and steered the Poppies to the Conference North title by a massive 17 points. He has already been in the limelight this season, masterminding a 1-0 victory at Hartlepool United in the first round of the FA Cup. He had a 57% win ratio at Kettering and worked miracles on a shoestring budget.
Meanwhile, assistant Eaden made over 600 appearances in his professional career at a number of clubs including Barnsley and Wigan Athletic. Eaden was part of the Barnsley side that clinched promotion to the Premier League, the first time in the club's history, back in 1997.
Not only that, but Eaden was part of the Wigan Athletic revolution, performing superbly at left-back during the club's meteoric rise from the basement division to the Premier League. Eaden was in the Wigan side that beat Reading 3-1 in 2005 when the Latics clinched promotion to the Premier League.
We ask all supporters to get behind Mark and his management team and are looking forward to our fixture at Sheffield United on Saturday 21st November.
