Butcher Hopeful Of Cup Shock

Posted on: Mon 15 Jan 2007

Richard ButcherMidfielder Richard Butcher believes Peterborough United can turn the form book upside down and cause a shock in the FA Cup third round replay at Championship side Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday (7.45pm).

Posh suffered their sixth straight league defeat at Darlington on Saturday and have not won since the beginning of December when striker Aaron Mclean fired Keith Alexander's men to a 1-0 win at Rochdale.

Butcher remains confident despite those statistics. 'It's gonna be a very, very, very tough game - even tougher than our league games. But it's the FA Cup - you've got to remember that anything can happen. We've just got to give it our best shot and hopefully we'll get a bit of luck on the night.

'We are doing ok in games - I think our forward play is good but we've just got to defend better. That's not having a pop against the defenders, just as a team we've got to stop conceding sloppy goals. We will put it right though, the lads are still confident,' Butcher said.

Posh will be without Guy Branston for the cup replay, while George Boyd, Adam Smtih and Adam Fry are cup-tied. Micah Hyde is ineligible to play.
