Histon produced an impressive performance to record a 2-1 victory over Peterborough United as the pre-season friendly campaign continued on Tuesday evening.

On a sweltering hot summers evening, the non-league side produced some good football on a nice playing surface and just about merited their victory which was sealed with a second half spot-kick.
It was Posh who held the upper hand for the majority of the first period with Trevor Benjamin witnessing an early effort smothered by the goalkeeper before Keith Alexander's men got their noses in front.

A huge throw from Jude Stirling caused panic in the Histon back-line and when an attempted clearance struck the back of midfielder Adam FRY, the hosts goalkeeper had no chance as the ball flew into the back of the net from close-range.

Histon squandered a good opportunity to level on the quarter hour mark after a mistake from Luke McShane was pounced on by one of two lively strikers, however when the ball was pulled back to the edge of the six-yard box, the shot was skied well over the top.
Benjamin saw a goal disallowed at the other end for offside and Dean Holden saw an effort blocked before the home side levelled the scores following a corner kick. McShane had saved Posh moments earlier with a fine point-blank stop, but as the short corner was worked, Ian CAMBRIDGE curled a fine effort into the top corner.

McShane then denied Cambridge, before Shane Huke fired over as the half drew to a close. The start to the second half was fairly uneventful and it wasn't until Alexander made four substitutions that the game livened up once more.
Danny Crow saw a shot well held by the goalkeeper and Simon Yeo headed a Stirling throw-in over the top as Posh pressed, but it was the hosts who snatched the winner as Chris Plummer was penalised for an off the ball tug in the area and NIGHTINGALE stepped up to coolly convert the penalty.

McShane smothered an effort from Cambridge before Yeo fired over in stoppage time as Posh slipped to defeat. Manager Keith Alexander was obviously disappointed to lose, but took the positives from the performance.
'I never want to lose any game and I am naturally disappointed, but pre-season is fitness related and it was good for players to get 90 minutes under their belts. We have a few knocks in our ranks, so it does show how small our squad is, but hopefully we can make a few additions in the next few days,' Alexander said in an interview with The Posh World.
The Posh boss confirmed he is still in negotiations with defender Guy Branston over a possible move to London Road, while midfielder David Rowson did not feature at Histon.
