Posted on: Thu 11 May 2006

Former Peterborough United and Birmingham City goalkeeper Bart Griemink is set to retire from the game because of a persistent knee injury after taking advice from medical experts.

The Dutchman (pictured in his Posh days) has made 26 appearances since moving to Roots Hall from Swindon in the summer of 2004, following spells at Birmingham and London Road. During his time at Posh, Griemink made 59 league starts for the club.

'I've had a bad time with knee injuries - the specialist has advised me to stop, or I could have problems in later life,' Griemink said.

Meanwhile, Southend have also released ex-Posh centre back Andy Edwards. The 34-year-old had a spell at Nationwide Conference outfit Grays Athletic earlier in the campaign.
