Peterborough United held open trials for under 14s and 15s at Woodlands, Castor on Wednesday and there was a great response with over 70 youngsters turning up.

On a bright, sunny day, the players were put through their paces by the pool of coaches, including Dave Robertson and Posh Community Officer Luke Weston.

Weston was impressed with the standard: 'The trials have gone extremely well and we have had a good response from the players with a large number turning up, which is great.

'Each group was allocated a coach and they played 30-minute matches. They went through a warm-up and then the coaches gave their instructions, but ultimately it was up to the players to perform.

'As coaches we break it down into different areas of the game. At the trials we were looking for natural talent, but we were also watching how they coped in this different environment. The players were obviously nervous because they want to impress, but they coped admirably,' Weston said.

A group of players were selected from the trials day and will compete in a match at London Road against the club's existing under 14s and 15s sides. Ron Atkinson will then select a player who will be welcomed into the Centre of Excellence, which begins in September.
