Tranmere v Posh: The Match Preview

Posted on: Fri 03 Sep 2010

Peterborough United travel to Prenton Park on Saturday to face Tranmere Rovers in npower League One looking for a victory to cement their position inside the top two.

Tranmere, who are managed by former physiotherapist Les Parry, are without a win so far this season, but performed well in defeat to Accrington Stanley in the Johnstone Paint Trophy this week.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are without the services of Lee Frecklington this weekend and are expected to be missing captain Grant McCann who is on international duty with Northern Ireland. He could still be involved, but boss Gary Johnson will leave it late before making a decision. Gabriel Zakuani has not joined up with Congo and is in the Posh squad. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is out with a knee injury.

Tranmere have strengthened their squad with Jermaine Grandison, Arnaud Mendy and Sam Morrow joining the club. Gunnar Neilson is also on-loan from Manchester City. Aaron Cresswell should start at left-back.

ONE TO WATCH

Enoch Showumni

Striker Enoch Showumni is a handful and boss Gary Johnson knows him well having managed him at Bristol City. The former Luton Town front man is a powerful player and has scored two goals in his last two appearances.

MANAGER QUOTES

'Tranmere are struggling a bit, but we have to give them the respect they deserve and I am sure they will be desperate to get their first win on the board. THey were beaten in mid-week in the Johnstone Paint Trophy, but they played well so they will be tough opponents for us,' Johnson said.
