Johnson: ‘Cup-Tie Will Be Tough’

Posted on: Sun 29 Aug 2010

Peterborough United manager Gary Johnson admits the Carling Cup third round draw, which will see npower Championship side Swansea City visit London Road, wasn't the glamour tie the club were looking for, however the Posh boss believes it does give an opportunity for progression in the tournament.

After home victories over Rotherham United and Cardiff City, Posh will test their good early season form against Swansea, who are managed by former Reading boss Brendan Rodgers. Johnson is looking forward to the tie and believes if Posh play to their potential they can progress.

'We all sat in the hotel together to watch the draw and all of the Premier League sides kept coming out together so we were wondering who we would get, but it is a home tie and that is one of the things we were hoping for.

'Swansea will provide tough opposition because they have some good players, but we showed against Cardiff City that if we play well we can get a result against sides from the Championship. It is a tie we will look forward to when it comes around, but right now, we have important league matches to focus on,' Johnson said.

One man in the Posh ranks who was pleased with the draw was winger Aaron Davies, a boy-hood Cardiff City fan and someone who spent time at the club in his teens. 'I think I was the only person in the room who was reasonably happy with the draw. As a Cardiff fan, it would be nice to play Swansea and hopefully progress.'
