Striker Craig Mackail-Smith took his goal tally for the season to six after a superb brace of goals in Peterborough United's emphatic 3-0 victory against Plymouth Argyle in the npower League One fixture at Home Park.
The former Dagenham and Redbridge front man, who scored an excellent goal against Cardiff City in mid-week, found the back of the net with a bullet header from a Grant McCann free-kick and then volleyed a second soon after as Gary Johnson's men eased to a comfortable 3-0 success against Argyle.
'I think many people were surprised that I scored with my head, but I must of reached double figures with headers now so people shouldn't question whether it is me or not! I have worked a lot on my heading and I was delighted with goal, but I owe a lot to the delivery from Grant, it was a great ball into the box.
'The second goal was a great ball from James Wesolowski and I just took a touch and managed to get it past the goalkeeper. I was pleased to see Aaron Mclean score as well because you never know how important goal difference is, when you get into strong positions in matches it is important to go after more goals.
'I thought we thoroughly deserved the win and it was a very good second half, we just need to ensure that we improve before the break. We were certainly in it and we were full of confidence going into the second period and as soon as we go the first goal there was never any doubt that we would win.
'Aside from the horror show at Bournemouth, we have had an excellent start to the season and long may that continue. We have Tranmere away next week and we will go there full of confidence that we can get a result,' Mackail-Smith said.
Meanwhile, centre back Ryan Bennett was just as happy as Mackail-Smith, a clean sheet was important for him and the team after shipping five at Dean Court in the last away outing. 'It was very satisfying to get a clean sheet because we haven't had one for a while and we wanted to put that Bournemouth defeat out of our minds.
'We had to dig in at times in the first half, but it wasn't just the defence, everyone defended well and it starts at the front, the strikers will get the plaudits and rightly so because their work-rate was first class and as a defender, the longer its 0-0, you just feel we will get a goal with the players we have in the team,' Bennett said.
The former Grimsby Town centre back also laughed off speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur, as reported this week in the Sun newspaper. 'I can't understand where these stories are coming from because I do not have an agent.
'It is not the first time it has happened either, when I was at Grimsby I was linked with a £2.5 million move and now Arsenal and Spurs are reportedly interested. It is a bit laughable really, I mean whoever is making the stories up at least make them realistic,' Bennett joked.
