McCann: 'A Great Start'

Posted on: Sat 07 Aug 2010

Skipper Grant McCann made his first competitive start in a Peterborough United shirt and helped his new team-mates to three points and scored in the process.

The former Scunthorpe United midfield man, who will miss the Carling Cup tie against Rotherham United because of international duty, scored the pick of the goals in the home success.

'After the pre-season matches, it was good to be in competitive action and to play in front of a fantastic crowd who really got behind us.

'It really was a good atmosphere and I think the lads responded to that support, particularly in the second half. I felt we played some excellent football at times and deserved the win.

'For me personally, to score was obviously a great feeling, I was confident stepping up to take it even though my set-pieces were not the best today.

'The lads are buzzing in the dressing room, but it is just one game, we have a long way to go and we need to keep it going because it breeds confidence,' McCann said.
