A mixture of reserve and youth players made the trip to Histon where goals from Dominic Green, an own goal from Remi Clerima and Chris Whelpdale earned a comfortable 3-1 victory for Peterborough United.
Whelpdale made an impact on the game instantly when he opened the scoring on six minutes. He timed his run well to meet a Dominic Green corner and sent a looping header past George Lawton to give Posh the lead.
It took Posh just a couple of minutes to double their lead when Dominic Green finished off a neat move after combining well with Ben Wright as the away side dominated the opening part of the game.
Histon did eventually come to life and should have pulled one back on the half hour mark but defender Remi Clerima headed over a corner from close range.
Lanre Oyebanjo then came close to scoring but his cross come shot was well tipped over by trialist goalkeeper Steve Collis.
From the resulting corner Histon did make their pressure count as Erkan Okay pounced on a loose ball in the area to score from close range.
Histon included both Danny Mills and Romonr McCrae in their starting line up as they continue to look at the two Posh players with a view to taking them on loan. It was Mills who nearly drew Histon level in the final minutes of the first half but after a great run, he dragged his shot wide.
The home side created the first chance of the second half when Okay came close to scoring his second of the night, but his shot from the edge of the area just missed the target.
Slightly against the run of play Posh managed to add a third as Nathan Koranteng broke down the left hand side. He delivered a dangerous cross and the unfortunate Clerima could only divert the ball into his own net following pressure from Ben Wright.
The second half was broken up by a succession of substitutions, as a host of youth players were given a chance to prove themselves.
Young defender, Carl Piergianni was putting in an impressive display at centre back and was nearly rewarded with a goal as Posh looked to finish the game off, but he saw his glancing header just miss the target.
Histon substitute, Jim Stevenson almost scored with his first touch as he shot from the edge of the area, but Breeze was on the line to deny the home side a lifeline as the game went into its final stages.
Another of Histon's replacements was causing the defence trouble as Lee Smith created a half chance for himself but Collis was left with a relatively comfortable save.
Wright had a chance to score with his final touch before being replaced to add to the score line but his powerful shot hit the side netting.
Wright's replacement from the youth team, Nathan Ralph had the final chance of the game but he was unable to find the target as the final whistle blew.
