Mclean: 'I Will Give 100%'

Posted on: Fri 02 Jul 2010

Anyone who has seen Aaron Mclean play will know that he never gives less than 100% whenever he plays and that will never change.

Mclean, who is back fully fit after injury problems last term, insists his commitment on the pitch is never in question and he is confident he can score goals in League One.

'I don't think anyone can accuse me of not giving 100% when I play, I always try and give my best for the cause, whether I have a good game or a bad game.

'I always try and give the same level of commitment and that won't change. Last season was disappointing for myself and for the team for a lot of reasons, this season is a fresh start, we can put all that behind us and hopefully give everybody something to cheer about again.

'From my point of view, I want to play at the highest level, that is what you are in the game for, but you have to do the business at whatever level you are at and for me I need to score goals in League One and everything else will take care of itself,' Mclean said in an exclusive interview with theposh.com.

The front man, who scored 18 goals in League One, insists that manager Gary Johnson has assembled a squad he firmly believes can get the club back to the Championship and with Craig Mackail-Smith and George Boyd at London Road, Mclean is confident the goals will flow.

'The fact that myself, George Boyd and Craig Mackail-Smith are here at the moment gives us all confidence that we can go into League One and repeat what we did at this level before and that was scoring goals and entertaining. It is a decent level League One and we are confident that we can score plenty of goals and get promoted again.

'Training has been very good, we have a small squad, he has identified what he wants from us and pre-season has been pretty tough, but everyone is giving 100% and you can't ask for much more than that. I get to play Leyton Orient again this season, one of my former clubs, it will be good because I have my family and friends from that area. Those kind of matches are ones that I am looking forward to.

'It is nice to be back in training first and foremost though and also to be enjoying my football again. At the end of last season I had my operation and it was frustrating, but I am glad to be back, with no re-occurrence of the injury.

'I feel good and strong and I am looking forward to getting back into the team and scoring goals. I definitely need a pre-season, it is essential to have a good few weeks so that you start the season bang on form and that is what I need to do,' Mclean said.
