Lewis Fully Focused On Posh

Posted on: Tue 29 Jun 2010

Peterborough United goalkeeper Joe Lewis is fully focussed on helping the club get back to the npower Championship and will ignore any transfer talk that may appear in the tabloids.

Lewis has been linked with many clubs in gossip columns, but ignores any kind of speculation and insists that he is committed to Posh.

The shot-stopper, who has two-years left to run on his current deal, is excited about what the club can achieve this season and believes that the training sessions so far have shown that there is plenty of quality within the ranks.

'There has been no offers coming in that I am aware of and until I am told otherwise I am a Peterborough player. I have two years of my contract left, so unless it is a good deal for the club and they want to accept then I will be here and I am happy with that. I am excited about what we can achieve here,' Lewis said.

During the summer, Lewis' professionalism was hailed by chairman Darragh MacAnthony and the goalkeeper insists he is not one to cause any fuss.

'To hear the chairman say things like that is really nice. I don't think you can let things affect you off the pitch because it will start to affect your performances.

'You have to keep your head right, knuckle down and if someone comes in for you, then you can see what the club wants to do because it is their decision and they have to do what is right for the football club.

'It is no good shouting your mouth off because it isn't an attractive trait and club's won't look on it favourably anyway. It is pointless getting like that, keep you head down, work hard and what will be, will be,' Lewis said.

The former Norwich City shot-stopper has been impressed with the tempo of training so far and believes the additions have made the squad hugely competitive.

'The first few sessions have been good, it has been the case of getting the muscles ready. Everyone is a bit sore after the first couple of days, but it has been sharp.

'I have done a bit of gym work and base work during the summer, you have to make sure you are in decent shape so when you come back you don't pick up injuries in stuff that we do.

'The tempo in the afternoon sessions have been very quick, the lads look very good. Everyone looked impressive and the team spirit looks good.

'Last season, I was one of the more experienced lads certainly in terms of matches played particularly towards the end fo the campaign, so it is nice to see players like Grant McCann join us.

'Grant has won promotion from this division, but to be fair, quite a few of the squad have achieved that. We have enough experience to know what it is all about and that should stand us in good stead,' Lewis said.
