It was a frustrating campaign for winger Chris Whelpdale, not just because Peterborough United suffered relegation to Coca-Cola League One, but also due to his own problems with a hefty chunk of the season spent in the treatment room.

Whelpdale was limited to 29 appearances in the Coca-Cola Championship due to an an ankle injury and he is recieving treatment for the next two weeks at London Road.

He admits it has been a frustrating time, but he is confident he can hit the ground running when he comes back for pre-season, a week early than most of the other members of the squad.

'I have a medial ligament strain in my ankle, which I sustained in the Bristol City match when I landed awkwardly by the far post and I have been out ever since.

'They said it was a six-week job at the time and I am about four weeks into my recovery, so I still have two weeks or so to go. I am still in at the club receiving treatment, so while all of the rest of the squad are on holiday, I have to work hard alongside the rest of the injured players to get fit before I can have a bit of a rest.

'It has been very frustrating to miss so much of the season due to injury, but I am confident I can bounce back next year. I am coming in a week or so before the rest of the squad for pre-season and I am prepared to work hard to get fully fit so I can hit the ground running for the new season,' Whelpdale said.
