Posh v Newcastle United: The Match Preview

Posted on: Sat 03 Apr 2010

Peterborough United entertain table toppers Newcastle United at London Road on Saturday afternoon (3pm) knowing that a defeat could lead to relegation from the Coca-Cola Championship.

Newcastle could also clinch automatic promotion with three points, providing Nottingham Forest are beaten at Bristol City.

A sell-out crowd will be inside London Road to watch the action and Posh boss Jim Gannon will be hoping several of his beleagured squad overcome injury and illness.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are without the services of Aaron Mclean, Mark Little, Izale McLeod, Craig Morgan and Chris Whelpdale, but Ryan Bennett and Liam Dickinson have been added to the squad.

Gabriel Zakuani was suffering with illness, but should play through any discomfort against Newcastle, who are without the services of striker Andy Carroll.

Shola Ameobi is set to start in attack after scoring against Nottingham Forest earlier in the week with Kevin Nolan supporting from midfield.

MANAGER QUOTES

'We want to enjoy the game, but enjoyment will come from playing well, competing strongly and getting a positive result. We have not spoken about the possibility of relegation this week. We are focussed entirely on getting a result which will lift the mood around our own club,' Gannon said,

BETTING
