Gannon: 'Relegation Not Being Discussed'

Posted on: Fri 02 Apr 2010

There are permitations that could see Peterborough United relegated on Saturday, but manager Jim Gannon insists that the 'R' word is not being discussed at London Road.

Gannon is preparing his side for the clash with table-toppers Newcastle United, who could be promoted if they claim all three points and Nottingham Forest are beaten.

Gannon said: 'We haven't mentioned relegation this week to be honest, we are just focussed on the next game, which happens to be Newcastle United.

'The lads need to restore a bit of pride and we need to stop the rot because the last couple of games have ended in defeat.

'The performances, aside from the defeat at Scunthorpe, have been okay, but I am looking for a good performance on Saturday.

'Newcastle are a very good side and they obviously deserve promotion to the Premier League, they have been brilliant at home, but have had one or two wobbles away from home,' the Posh boss said.

There are several injury worries for the Posh boss to contend with and he admits he will have to find a system to suit the players available.

'We only had 14 professionals at the training ground on Thursday, so we have had to work hard to find a system to suit those available.

'Liam Dickinson came through okay, but Ryan Bennett was feeling his ankle so dropped out of training, while Craig Morgan is not fit yet.'

Aaron Mclean, Mark Little, Izale McLeod and Chris Whelpdale are also sidelined.
