Whelpdale Ruled Out For A Month

Posted on: Mon 29 Mar 2010

Peterborough United have been hit with a further blow after news that winger Chris Whelpdale could miss the rest of the season.

The right-sided midfielder sustained medial ligament damage to his ankle in the 1-0 defeat to Bristol City at London Road on Saturday.

He landed akwardly in the first half as he attempted to convert a Tommy Rowe cross and after initially trying to run on the injury, he was forced off.

'It is extremely frustrating and I am very disappointed that I am going to miss around four weeks. I just went up for a header and landed on the goalkeeper pretty much and I knew I had sustained some damage.

'I hope I can come back before the end of the season, but it is just a case of wait and see at the minute.I need to see how it responds to treatment,' Whelpdale said.

Whelpdale joins Aaron Mclean, Izale McLeod and Mark Little on the sidelines with Liam Dickinson, Craig Morgan and Ryan Bennett hoping to return to fitness ahead of this weekend's all-ticket clash with Newcastle United.
