Doubts Over Midfield Pair

Posted on: Thu 11 Mar 2010

Peterborough United manager Jim Gannon has revealed that several of his players are struggling with injuries ahead of Saturday's trip to Vicarage Road.

Watford provide the opposition and Gannon may be without midfielders Chris Whelpdale and Lee Frecklington for the clash with the Hornets.

Whelpdale (groin) and Frecklington (calf) have both been regulars in the starting line-up of late, but with matches coming thick and fast, they may miss out.

Gabriel Zakuani dropped out of Thursday's training session due to soreness on his groin, but Gannon insists this is expected after back to back games.

'Gabriel has been out for some time and to play Saturday and then Tuesday night was always going to take its toll, so he did the right thing to sit out training.

'Lee and Chris are suffering a bit and with the games coming thick and fast at the minute, it is only natural that players will pick up knocks,' Gannon said.

Ryan Bennett (ankle) and Izale McLeod (knee) are both out, but Reuben Reid and Josh Simpson are available for selection after injury and illness.
