Middlesbrough v Posh: The Match Preview

Posted on: Fri 12 Feb 2010

Peterborough United travel to the Riverside Stadium on Saturday afternoon (3pm) to face Gordon Strachan's Middlesbrough side in Coca-Cola Championship action.

The hosts have completely overhauled their squad since the two teams met at London Road and boss Jim Gannon expects just one player who was on duty in the first meeting between the two sides to be involved on Saturday in home colours.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are without the services of defender Gabriel Zakuani (groin), but the former Fulham centre back is targetting a return for Tuesday night's meeting with Ipswich Town. One or two other players have knocks including Izale McLeod who has a knee injury.

Middlesbrough are reporting no fresh injury concerns for the game, but could make changes from the 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town.

MANAGER QUOTES

'Middlesbrough have changed their side around completely since they visited London Road at the end of November. I have watched the DVD of that game, but I think there will be just one player that performed for Borough on that day that we will come up against on Saturday. I am familiar with a lot of the players because they played against my Motherwell side in Scotland,' Gannon said.

ONE TO WATCH

After selling Adam Johnson to Manchester City, it is up to the remaining squad members to step up to the plate and midfielder Barry Robson is one that should stand out. The former Celtic man is an all-round performer, he can tackle, he can score goals, he is good in the air and has a decent free-kick in his locker.
