Ferguson Pleased With Simpson Signing

Posted on: Thu 05 Nov 2009

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson believes new signing Josh Simpson is 'ready for the Championship' after the midfielder agreed a loan move from Histon.

Simpson, whose move could be made permanent in Janaury, will go straight into the squad for the trip to Newcastle United on Saturday.

Ferguson told theposh.com: 'Josh is a player that has been on the radar for a little while and having seen him at close hand in the friendly a week or so ago, we felt it was important to offer him a trial and see him in training.

'He impressed greatly and I am pleased to have him on board. He can play just behind the strikers or on the right hand side of midfield and gives us good options.

'We are still looking to get a striker in, but it is difficult. I would say that the players that we are looking to bring in now and ones that we feel will go into the starting line-up. There is no point in our situation bringing in players to improve the squad, they need to make our starting XI better,' Ferguson said.

Simpson was naturally delighted to be at London Road and admits being in the squad for this weekend's clash at Newcastle is a 'dream come true'.

'It has been a whirlwind for me in the last couple of weeks and to be a Peterborough player is a dream come true and it is very surreal that I am looking forward to a game at Newcastle.

'I just want to impress, I enjoy getting forward and playing in behind the strikers and I hope that I can show the supporters what I am about, but I am willing to be patient and wait for my opportunity,' Simpson said.
