A strong Peterborough United reserve side, which contained recent signings Ryan Bennett and Scott Griffiths, were beaten 4-0 by Histon's first XI at the Glassworld Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Posh fielded trialist Lanre Oyebanjo at right-back, ironically against his current employers while Histon included Billy Crook, who is currently on-loan at the Blue Square Premier League outfit.
David Oldfield's men never got going and the hosts were always in control from the moment that Josh Simpson opened the scoring with a crisp low effort from 25-yards.
Goalkeeper Sam Cole had already made three good saves, one in particular was excellent, denying Jamie Barker from point blank range.
Histon doubled their lead on 35 minutes and it was a fine half volley from Billy Crook, whose 25-yard shot found the bottom corner of the net.
Simpson looked lively in the first 45 minutes for Histon, although Ryan Bennett looked calm at the back in his first appearance for the club. Griffiths too showed good pace and composure at left-back.
After the break, Histon continued to press and found a third goal when Nathaniel Knight-Percival swept the ball home from close-range after good work from Simpson.
Ben Wright struck the crossbar with a volley from the edge of the area but chances were few and far between for Posh.On 76 minutes, the Stutes made it 4-0 as Simpson created a simple chance for Knight-Percival who struck the ball past goalkeeper Cole. Dove fired well over the bar when well-placed after good work from Green.
Scottish midfielder Paul Coutts, on his return from an injury lay-off, fired a shot wide of the target from long range and in a game of very few positves, it was pleasing to see him come through the full 90 minutes without any obvious signs of discomfort.
