Doncaster Rovers v Posh: The Preview

Posted on: Tue 20 Oct 2009

Peterborough United travel to the Keepmoat Stadium to face Doncaster Rovers this evening in Coca-Cola Championship action (7.45pm) looking to build on the weekend point at Bristol City.

Doncaster were beaten 1-0 by local rivals Barnsley and will be desperate to atone for that defeat against Darren Ferguson's men.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are sweating on the fitness of left-back Tom Williams, who could miss out due to an ankle injury that nearly forced him to miss the clash at Ashton Gate.

Scottish midfielder Paul Coutts is out with a foot problem, while Charlie Lee remains a doubt with a slight ankle knock.

Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll welcomes back midfielders John Oster and Quinton Fortune who have both served three match bans following red cards picked up against Scunthorpe United. However, O'Driscoll has doubts over Martin Woods (groin) and James Coppinger (calf) with both players missing training on Monday.

Steve Brooker (ankle) and Adam Lockwood (foot) are definitely out. Sean McDaid (knee) has resumed full training - but is lacking fitness and will not feature.

MANAGER QUOTES

'Doncaster will be another difficult test for us, but we go there with confidence and the point at Bristol City needs to be built on. We know the next three games are vitally important and if we can go into back to back home games on the back of a victory tonight, it will set us up nicely,' Ferguson said.

'I think that they are an attractive side. I think they have done very well over the past couple of seasons. They have sort of walked through two divisions and come up into the Championship. I think they are now on a learning curve, as we were last season, but if they stick to their principles, which they have done so far; alter one or two things and learn quickly then I think they will be fine.

'I think that you can't score as many goals as they have scored and then suddenly dry up, but they will come up against some sides, like we did, who are used to dealing with pressure. You can sympathise with them at this minute in time because we have been in that situation as well. But they have a goal threat and they will never lose that,' O'Driscoll said.
