Williams Ruled Out

Posted on: Thu 20 Aug 2009

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has confirmed that left-back Tommy Williams will miss this weekend's trip to Preston North End in the Coca-Cola Championship after picking up a groin strain on Tuesday night.

Williams limped out of the action against West Bromwich Albion and despite treatment since that evening, he will not feature at Deepdale.

Boss Ferguson has a selection dilemma facing him with several options in front of him. Charlie Lee could revert to left-back with Russell Martin coming in at right back or Tommy Rowe could slot in at left-back in a straight swap.

'Charlie is actually a bit more comfortable on the left hand side of defence, but in saying that Tommy Rowe did well when he came on against West Bromwich Albion.

'Krystian Pearce, Russell Martin and Lee can all play at right-back, so I will have a think and see which way to go against a very well organised Preston side.

'Losing Tommy Williams is a blow, but we do not think it is too serious. Hopefully with a bit of treatment and rest he will be back soon,' Ferguson said.
