Batt Pleased With Workout

Posted on: Thu 30 Jul 2009

Peterborough United forward Shaun Batt scored the opening goal in the 2-0 victory over Stevenage Borough on Tuesday night. Batt opened the scoring on 15 minutes with a well taken finish and the former Fisher Athletic front man was pleased with his workout after struggling with illness recently.

'I was pleased with the workout, I played 90 minutes against Fulham and 85 against Stevenage so it's good to get some playing time under my belt before the start of the season.

'It's always nice to score especially with my weaker foot and if I can keep playing well there is no reason why I can't cement a place in the team for the first game of the season.' Batt said.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson named central defender Gabriel Zakuani as captain for the friendly at Stevenage and the Democratic Republic of Congo international was honoured to wear the captain's armband.

'It was a big privilege for me to captain the team, after everything we achieved last season it was a proud moment.

'The gaffer told me five minutes before the game which came as a bit of a shock but it was a good experience and it was a comfortable performance. It was nice to keep a clean sheet and we played some good football at times.' Zakuani told theposh.com.
