Peterborough United striker Craig Mackail-Smith sat out the morning training session on Wednesday as a precaution after again feeling discomfort in his groin, but his team-mates were given a strenuous work-out by the management.

Mackail-Smith was icing the area that was causing his discomfort and he could miss the rest of the sessions in Marbella. The injury is to be monitored by the club's medical team. Midfielder Paul Coutts missed the session due to illness, but should recover in time for Thursday's sessions.

The squad were split into three groups and made their way around a trio of extremely difficult exercises which included a boxercise session with the players punching pads held up by their team-mates.

Fitness and Conditioning Coach Scott Taylor was in charge of the second testing exercise, which saw players sprinting from a sitting start. The players were split into pairs and were stuck together via Velcro on their hands.

Kevin Russell oversaw arguably the trickiest exercise, which saw players weaving around a number of obstacles before racing up the hill alongside the pitch. The first training session of the day lasted around 90 minutes.
