Peterborough United recently hosted the Unity FC presentation evening, with players who attended their tour to Holland presented with a trophy from recent youth team graduate Sam Gaughran. The football club have been working closely with the council for a number of years with this project with the shared aim of uniting young people from different racial and geographical backgrounds through Football.

The project involves players from many different backgrounds to create a better youth cohesion across the city through the common interest of the beautiful game. Football in the Community Officer Nick Sheppard said: 'This project is a great way of pulling people together who previously may not have socialised. The boys created an obvious bond and the experience of their tour to Holland is one which will stay with them forever.

'A massive thank you must go to Javed Ahmed and Jason Horne from the city council for co-ordinating this fantastic project, to our Community coach Simon Ryan for coaching the squad and managing them throughout the tournament and also to Sam for coming to present the awards.'

Gaughran, who is no stranger to the project, having played against Unity FC for the Centre of Excellence during his time in the youth set up said: 'Everyone who took part in the project should be really proud of themselves, Unity FC is a great way to break down the social barriers that exist in the city and lets the youngsters share the enjoyment of football.'
