Peterborough United goalkeeper Joe Lewis played 45 minutes and kept a clean sheet as the England under 21s reached the semi-finals of the European Championships in Sweden as group winners following a 1-1 draw with Germany.

Germany took an early lead with Watford shot-stopper Scott Loach conceding within five minutes, but Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell nodded England level before the break. Lewis came on at half-time and although not too busy, he did everything that was asked of him in the second period as Stuart Pearce's men eased into the semi-finals.

Lewis, speaking to theposh.com said: 'It was good to play a part in the tournament and I feel ready to play should I be called upon in the next two games. I didn't have too much to do, but it was enjoyable and now we look forward to the semi-finals of the tournament.

'We have definitely got the squad capable of winning the tournament. It is just a case of a little bit of luck and performing on the day. I am sure if we get that, then we have a great chance,' Lewis commented.
