Free Kicks Foundation never cease to be amazed by the generosity of Posh fans, since we started the charity nearly 2 years ago, we have had nothing but support from PISA2000, th Posh Trust and foreverposh as well as Posh fans all around the country and the world via londonroad.net. Coupled with the fantastic help from everybody within the Football Club, we have gone from strength to strength.
In fact in the time since May 2007 when we held our launch weekend with a gig and 5 a side tournament, we have raised over £20,000 to give deserving children amazing days out. Much of that we put down to support from fellow Poshies. Whether that be by attending events, sponsoring our challenges to cycle to Milton Keynes and the 92 grounds in 92 hours tour, buying cds and books and basically getting 110% behind any idea that we come up with.
Last week that reached a new level, I was contacted by the club earlier in the week, to say that someone had come into reception, a Posh fan who can't make many games at all, due to work commitments around the world in the music business. But he said he wanted to support Darragh in some way for all he has done for the club, by buying a season ticket and donating it to charity.
I arranged to meet Jonnie Lewis from Oundle, he purchased an adult season ticket for the Family Stand, therefore qualifying for a free childs ticket. So for next season in the Championship, Free Kicks will be donating these 2 tickets to 23 deserving children and their parent/guardian from the local area.
A wonderful gesture, I know everybody will agree, and more proof of the impact Darragh has had on the local area.
I would also publicly like to thank Peterborough City Council, Paul Stevenette, John Peach and The Mayor, for helping us arrange for 14 year old Posh fan, Matthew Davies to attend the Civic reception at the Town Hall on Monday. Unfortunately, Matthew wasn't well enough to attend.
