Fry Praises Chairman And Manager

Posted on: Sun 26 Apr 2009

Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry was quick to praise chairman Darragh MacAnthony and manager Darren Ferguson following automatic promotion to the Coca-Cola Championship.

Fry, who heralded back to back promotions as a 'miraculous achievement', also pointed out the role that Ron Atkinson has had in the recent success of the football club.

'I have said it before and I will say it again, since Darragh MacAnthony has come into this football club I feel I have died and gone to heaven. The chairman is a football nut, he has installed a young, hungry manager in Darren Ferguson and has backed him to the hilt. These two gentleman have taken us to heights we can only dream of.

'The chairman and the manager have had a policy to bring young, hungry players into the football club, they want to listen and learn and just want to play football. Achieving back to back promotion is a miraculous achievement and it is all down to Darren, his team and of course the chairman.

'It is great to be a Posh fan. We all know that the last 10 years have been one of real struggle and the main objective was to survive so I'm absolutely delighted that myself and the Board of Directors were able to keep the club going. We took a lot of stick with the Big Ron Manager programme but I have telephoned Ron and thanked him because without the show we would not have Darragh as the owner and there is no way we would be playing in the Championship.

'It really is Roy of the Rovers stuff, the players have been magnificent all season, they are young and hungry and want to be successful. We have got back to back promotions by playing exciting football, scoring lots of goals and creating plenty of chances, but Darren has also installed a tremendous team spirit. They never give up and if you look back over the course of the season, there has been many times when they have dug deep and come back from the brink of defeat.

'None of us know how far this club can go. We have achieved two successive promotions and who knows, we could get a third. We are ready for the Championship and everybody cannot wait to test ourselves at that level.

'Finally, I would like to pay tribute to the supporters who have been first class this season. We have had record season tickets this term and next season we have sold well over 4,000 and I am sure that figure will rise. The attendances are up and we have actually sold more season tickets for next season than we had as an average attendance overall a few seasons back,' Fry told theposh.com.
