Striker Craig Mackail-Smith has already turned his attentions to next season and football in the Coca-Cola Championship after Peterborough United secured automatic promotion following a 1-0 victory over Colchester United at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Charlie Lee was the only goal-scorer in the game, but Mackail-Smith put in a superb tireless display up front against two physical defenders and the club's top scorer was understandably full of praise for the work that manager Darren Ferguson has done at London Road.
'This is a fantastic achievement for everyone at Peterborough United, the players, the supporters, the chairman and of course the manager Darren Ferguson who has done a superb job and really helped the players progress and believe that we can be successful and that is what we have achieved.
'I can't wait for next season already, playing teams like Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion would be amazing. There are a lot of massive teams in the Championship, better stadiums to visit and bigger crowds to play in front of and I can't wait.
'The scenes at the end were incredible and it was great that we were able to celebrate in front of the fans who stayed off the pitch. Tonight is going to be a great night I am sure and next week will be a great party at London Road,' Mackail-Smith told theposh.com.
Meanwhile defender Chris Westwood, who was an unused substitute at Colchester, believes this season's promotion has to be classed as better than the 2008 achievement. 'It is a great achievement and it has to be better than last year's triumph because we are in a higher league.'
Midfielder Dean Keates was replaced by Lee Frecklington for the final half hour as Keates sustained a slight strain, but Frecklington kept things ticking over for Posh and admitted it was great to play a part.
'I didn't expect to play for as long as I did, but it was great to get on and help the team to a victory and it certainly justifies my decision to sign for Peterborough as Championship football is just around the corner,' Frecklington said.
