Lee Ecstatic After Posh Clinch Promotion

Posted on: Sat 25 Apr 2009

Charlie Lee scored the goal that clinched automatic promotion to the Coca-Cola Championship and immediately warned the teams in the league above that they will be hugely competitive.

Lee's goal, five minutes before the break, earned all three points for Darren Ferguson's men and the former Tottenham Hotspur trainee, who played at left-back against the U's was understandably elated following the final whistle.

'I am absolutely buzzing at the minute, it was a great feeling when the final whistle went and we could properly celebrate and for me personally to score the winning goal was superb, but all credit to the squad and the management who have been first class.

'I am thrilled that we are going to be playing Championship football next season and I definitely believe we can cause a few problems at that level. It has been a great season and this caps it off, we can now enjoy the night and look forward to a promotion party next week.

'We can relax a bit next week now, the fans will enjoy themselves and everybody will be having fun and I can't wait,' Lee told theposh.com. Lee's goal on the stroke of half-time was created by George Boyd, who was excellent throughout the 90 minutes.

'Get in,' Boyd said as he dashed across the pitch to celebrate in front of the supporters. 'I can't describe how I am feeling at the moment to be honest, it is just a superb feeling and I am delighted for everyone at the football club. We have come a long way and to secure back to back promotions is a fantastic achievement,' Boyd said.
