Posh Offer Professional Contracts To Trio

Posted on: Fri 24 Apr 2009

Peterborough United Football Club are delighted to announce that we have offered professional contracts to Sam Gaughran, Danny Andrew and Billy Crook. The trio, who have been regulars in the under 18 side as well as the Posh reserves, will join the first team squad for pre-season training in July.

Gaughran is a central defender who has captained the reserve team on occasions this season, Andrew is a left-back who travelled to Marbella with the first team last summer, while Crook has earned rave reviews during a loan stint with Blue Square Premier League side Weymouth.

Posh Head of Youth Dave Robertson told theposh.com: 'A total of nine apprentices have come to the end of their programme and I am extremely proud to introduce three players into the first team squad. Sam Gaughran is a centre back, has been a regular in the reserves this season. He is developed very well, has skippered the second string and I am sure the supporters will recall his performance against Celtic in a pre-season friendly. Since then, Sam has continued to progress and has caught the eye of the first team boss Darren Ferguson.

'The second player I would like to introduce is Danny Andrew.  Danny is a very exciting left-back, he joined the programme when we first started as a Centre of Excellence. He has fantastic energy as a left-back, his main attributes are the quality of his delivery into the box. He has good technical ability, has a very good left-foot and has really caught the eye of the first team management.

'He is a local lad and this reinforces what we are trying to achieve at Peterborough United with our policy to bring in players from around the local area. It is important to give opportunities to local players because there is a lot of talent out there.

'The third player I would like to introduce is Billy Crook. Billy is a central midfielder and is an exciting player. He has fantastic ability in possession of the ball, his range of passing is extremely good and I think he is clever with the ball and what he can do with it.

'He has flourished in the programme and has just recently been on-loan at Weymouth in the Blue Square Premier League. He earned rave reviews and we look forward to working with him at London Road and watching him progress in the first team squad,' Robertson said.

We will be speaking to the trio on Monday.
