Millwall v Posh: The Match Preview

Posted on: Sun 12 Apr 2009

Peterborough United face one of the most important fixtures of their recent history on Easter Monday as Darren Ferguson's men travel to the New Den to face promotion rivals Millwall (7.45pm) in a game that is televised live by Sky Sports.

Following the 1-1 draw with Cheltenham Town on Saturday, Posh find themselves six points ahead of the Lions and avoiding defeat to Kenny Jackett's men will boost the automatic promotion hopes.

TEAM NEWS
Posh look set to welcome back influential defender Gabriel Zakuani after the former Fulham man missed the draw with Cheltenham due to a slight groin strain. Chris Whelpdale is rated 50-50 for the clash after sustained a similar injury in training last week.

Tom Williams (knee), Jamie Day (back), Craig Morgan (metatarsal injury) and Lee Frecklington (hamstring) are all ruled out. Millwall are sweating on the fitness of winger James Henry (hamstring) who missed the defeat at Yeovil Town. Neil Harris and Gary Alexander have both overcome facial injuries of late.

MANAGER QUOTES
'The destiny is still in our own hands, but we know it will be a very difficult game on Monday. Millwall have been in good form of late and they need to come out and get the right result, but we are eight unbeaten and are full of confidence at the minute. I am hoping that Gaby will be back after missing the weekend game, but Chris Whelpdale remains a doubt,' Ferguson said.

PLAYER QUOTES
Paul Robinson spoke to the Millwall website ahead of Monday night's make-or-break Den clash with Posh. 'Even with four matches left there may yet be another twist in the tail.

'Leicester aren't quite home and dry either and still have to play Leeds tomorrow plus Southend away and Scunthorpe. Whatever happens against Peterborough it looks like we're pretty much assured of a Play-Off place now. I think at the start of the season, if we'd been offered to be in the position we currently find ourselves we'd have taken it because we have made tremendous strides since narrowly avoiding relegation last season.

'Peterborough have done brilliantly after being promoted last season. Like MK Dons they had a momentum going and have just kept that winning habit and mentality. Monday night is a really big one for us. There is a lot resting on it - it should be a cracker,' Robinson said.

ONE TO WATCH
Neil Harris is the club's all-time goal-scoring record holder and he maintains the threat he first posed when bursting on the scene at the New Den. His experience at this time of the campaign is invaluable and he will be leading the line against Posh on Monday evening.

TRAFFIC PROBLEMS
We would like to remind supporters travelling to The Den that there will be both major road and train works affecting access to The Den. From Sunday 5th April to Sunday 19th April, Surrey Canal Road will be closed at the junction with Ilderton Road to vehicles and pedestrians due to the construction of a large crane.

During the course of the above period there will be no parking on Rollins Street between the junction of Ilderton Road and the railway bridge. Also there will be no rail service from London Bridge to South Bermondsey on Easter Monday, with a replacement bus service in operation. The Jubilee Line will also be closed, so London Bridge, Bermondsey and Canada Water stations will be closed.

Alternative ways to The Den for those travelling by rail.
1) To London Bridge Station - then a replacement bus service which passes the ground.
2) Train to New Cross Gate - 15-20 minute walk to The Den.
