Hereford United v Posh: The Match Preview

Posted on: Fri 20 Feb 2009

Peterborough United face Hereford United on Saturday at Edgar Street (3pm) knowing a victory will keep the pressure on Milton Keynes Dons, who lie in second place in the Coca-Cola League One table.

Hereford have improved of late and recorded a 2-0 victory over Leeds United in their last game. Posh go into the clash on the back of a 1-1 draw at Tranmere Rovers with Craig Mackail-Smith firing his 21st goal of the campaign to earn a share of the spoils.

TEAM NEWS
Posh are still without the services of Craig Morgan (toe) and Tom Williams (knee), but Shane Blackett has been added to the squad after recovering from a shoulder injury. Jamie Day is out for the rest of the season with a back injury. Shaun Batt is rated as doubtful with a thigh injury.

Hereford will still be without Josh Gowling (leg) and Dean Beckwith (head) who picked up injuries at Cheltenham last Saturday. There is more encouraging news about skipper Karl Broadhurst who may have recovered from a dead leg sustained in the same game in time to take his place in the squad.

ONE TO WATCH
On-loan Manchester United youngster Fabian Brandy scored his first Hereford goal in the 2-0 win over Leeds United and Posh defender James Chester knows him well. 'He isn't the biggest, but is decent in the air and knows where the back of the net is. I spoke to him this week on the phone and we had a bit of banter. It will be good to play against someone I have come through the ranks with at United.'

MANAGER QUOTES
'It is another difficult game. They have strengthened their squad and had a great win over Leeds last week, but we are concentrating on our performance and if we play well I am sure we will be successful,' Ferguson said.

Hereford boss Graham Turner praised Brandy for his performance last week. 'He's been lively up front, I think he's only played two full games this season and he was always going to feel the pace, I think he will get better. It was a good contribution both on Saturday and against Leeds. We are in a real dogfight to get away from the relegation zone.'

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The game is no longer all-ticket and Posh fans can pay on the turnstiles.
