Crofts Hoping To Take Opportunity
Peterborough United secured the loan signing of highly-rated Gillingham midfielder Andrew Crofts on Wednesday and the Welsh international has explained the reasons behind his move to London Road.
The 24-year-old played the full 90 minutes for the reserve team against Wycombe Wanderers and if he comes through training on Thursday and Friday, he is expected to be included in the squad for Saturday's Coca-Cola League One meeting with Colchester United at London Road.
'I heard about the move on Tuesday evening. The Gillingham manager gave me a call and said that Peterborough wanted to do something and it has all happened quite quickly. I came down and played in the reserves against Wycombe and I am just looking forward to my time here.
'I played nearly 200 games for Gillingham and was captain there. I was fortunate to win a few awards last season and for one reason or another it hasn't really worked out this year. I was looking for something fresh and Peterborough are a club that are ambitious and moving forward.
'I am not too sure why I haven't featured at Gillingham in the last couple of weeks. I played seven or eight games early on, but they decided to change it and I am not too bothered about that. I am concentrating on Peterborough now.
'It will be good to see Craig Morgan again - we know each other through the Welsh squads, I am good mates with him. I just want to show what I can do, be the all-round midfield player and get from box-to-box. It is a good step-up for me, I want to play as high as I can and Peterborough are a club that are looking to progress.
'I have come here on-loan and it is a chance for me to show what I can do and maybe if things work out then it can be made permanent, but we will see how it goes. I have got to get into the team first and then take it from there,' Crofts told theposh.com.
