Peterborough United have swooped for Gillingham midfielder Andrew Crofts on-loan until the end of January with the Welsh international involved in the reserve team fixture with Wycombe Wanderers on Wednesday afternoon. The signing is with a view to a permanent move.

Crofts is one of the most successful graduates from Gillingham's youth system and has made seven starts for the club this season. He was appointed as the club's captain last season and the 24-year-old is Gillingham's most capped player.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson told theposh.com: 'He is a player I have looked at for a while and I believe he is a good acquisition. He is a full international with Wales and was Gillingham's best player last year, winning all the awards and I don't really know what has happened this season, but it is to our advantage.

'He is something a bit different, he has good energies, is very good in the air and gets around the pitch. He is a good all-round midfielder and gives us good cover because I have to be very careful with Paul Coutts. He has come from non-league and I need to keep him fresh.

'Dean Keates has just come back from injury and will need a break soon and you never know with Charlie. It gives us good options and it is something different in the mix. He is a good signing,' Ferguson said.
