Only once in the club's history have Peterborough United beaten Leeds United so George Boyd was understandably elated to be part of the second team to notch up a win over a side that up until a few seasons ago were playing their football in the Champions League.

Boyd was mercurial throughout and capped a fine individual display with the opening goal, firing home from close-range after Dominic Green's cross-shot picked him out in the six-yard box. Boyd was instrumental throughout and if Leeds supporters hadn't heard of him before the match, they certainly know all about him now.

'It was a great win and it sounds brilliant to be in a side that has beaten Leeds United because everyone knows they are a massive club. The atmosphere was superb inside the stadium and it was great to reward the supporters by getting a win and that is six matches unbeaten now.

'My goal was fairly simple but it was a good time to score it and I think we caught them cold in the second half. It was a fine cross to Dominic and I have no idea whether he picked me out or whether it was a shot, but it picked me out and I just finished it.

'I really enjoyed the performance, I was able to get on the ball a lot and we have worked hard in training to get things right for this game. We are a young team but everyone did their job and the second goal put the seal on the win,' Boyd told theposh.com.

Goalkeeper Joe Lewis, who kept a clean sheet for the first time since mid-August, was delighted with the victory and pleased with his own display after coming in for criticism in recent weeks.

'I thought I did well, I managed to get hold of every cross that came my way and the shots that were fired at goal were pretty much straight at me. The defence were excellent and kept Jermaine Beckford very quiet,' Lewis added.
