Martin Announced As New Posh Skipper
Defender Russell Martin has been confirmed as the new Peterborough United team captain and he got off to a winning start, skippering the side to a 2-1 victory against Milton Keynes at stadium:mk.
The 22-year-old, who only joined the club during the close season, replaces Craig Morgan. Manager Darren Ferguson explained the reasons behind the decision to theposh.com and praised Morgan for the way he handled the role during his short stint as skipper.
'I had a chat with Craig during the week and I just felt we needed a captain who is here all of the time. Craig was away for about 10 days recently when he was with Wales and he will be away again very soon and I think it is important to have a bit of consistency.
'Craig accepted the decision well and is concentrating on performing well as he did excellently against MK Dons. This is nothing against his captaincy, he was superb and I am sure Russell Martin will do the job well.
'Russell is only 22-years-old, but he is a model professional and I see him playing week in, week out at right back providing he stays fit. He has settled into life at Posh very quickly and has not put a foot wrong in any of the matches so far,' Ferguson said.
